Dungeness Crab Strategy and Tips

Strategy:  Choose a day that has a difference between high and low tide of five feet or less.  Slack tide is the best time to go crabbing, it is generally an hour before and after high tide.  Fill the bait container in your crab pot with fish carcasses, chicken or turkey.  Don’t forget to hang a salmon head inside the top of the pot.

Tip: When shopping for fresh seafood in the grocery store, be sure to give it the sniff test.  It should have a neutral or a salty ocean smell.  If it smells fishy or ammonia-like, chances are it is going bad.  It is also helpful to talk to someone in the seafood department to see when the catch arrived.
