Lake Trout Strategy and Tips
Strategy: In the spring when the water is cold, lake trout are found near the surface and close to the shoreline. Cast a spoon near the weed brakes and at the mouth of streams entering the lake. In the summer, jig near deep underwater structures (located with your sonar unit) or use downriggers with a herring fished a few feet behind a flasher. In winter, jig around islands and off of points in approximately 15 to 20 feet of water.
Tip: Cloudy days are best for lake trout. If it is bright and sunny outside, fish the early morning and evening hours.
