Pink Salmon Strategy and Tips

Strategy:  Pinks begin their migration back to spawn from late June through September.  While still at sea, fish the breakwaters or intertidal areas with cut herring, spoons, and spinners.  Once they have reached the freshwater rivers, try fishing a fly bounced along the bottom about 18 inches behind a half ounce lead pencil sinker.  In slack water, try pixies and crocodiles.

Tip:  To trigger a strike when fishing freshwater streams.  Cast the lure upstream at a 45 degree angle.  Let the lure drift down in front of the fish, while using a slow retrieve.  A fish will rarely strike a lure brought up from behind them.
