Rainbow Trout Strategy and Tips

Strategy:  When fishing for Rainbows, you need to pay particularly close attention to what they may be feeding on and try to match it.  For instance, in a river that also holds salmon, you probably need to use a salmon egg pattern or a small spoon imitating a smolt.  When fishing in a lake, try either freshwater shrimp, Caddis fly or Mayfly patterns.

Tip:  A fly rod will usually out fish a spinning rod three to one, when it comes to Rainbow fishing.  Although, a good number of hookups can be achieved on spinners with a slow retrieve.  Also, you may want to try fresh bait such as a salmon egg or roe bounced along the bottom or fished under a bobber.
