Silver Salmon Strategy and Tips
Strategy: After three to four years at sea, the Silver Salmon return to their native streams to spawn in late July through November. While still at sea, you may want to try a herring fished behind a diving planer or downrigger. Once the Silvers enter the freshwater, a glob of fresh salmon eggs bounced along the bottom, behind an attractor such as a spin and glow, is a temptation the silver just can’t resist. Other good bets are pixies and crocodiles.
Tip: When fishing for Silvers in fast moving water, use extra strong line. A 10 pound Silver will generate the strength of a 20 pounder, while using the strong current to their advantage.
