Snowshoe Hare sitting in the snow.

Snowshoe Hare Strategy and Tips

Strategy:  One of the most effective ways to put a Snowshoe in the pot is the use of a simple snare.  The snare is made from thin cable or wire with a slip knot on the end of it.  Set the snare on a Snowshoe trail about one to two inches off the ground and use a six inch loop.  Secure other end to tree or stake.  Place branches on both sides of snare to funnel in the Hare.  Important:  Be sure the loop is circular and not teardrop shaped or the Hare won’t go through it.

Tip:  If you don’t have access to a vacuum sealer, when freezing small game for extended periods of time.  You’ll want to cut the game up into small pieces and place in cardboard or plastic milk cartons, with the tops cut off.  Fill container with water and freeze.  This added insulation from the ice will help preserve your game longer.
