Willow Ptarmigan Strategy and Tips
Strategy: During the winter months, start off by using your snowmobile to locate a covey of Ptarmigan in the Willows above treeline. Once located, strap on a pair of snowshoes and you can chase them from Willow patch to Willow patch, as they rarely fly more than a hundred yards after being chased up.
Tip: The shotgun is the preferred method for taking Ptarmigan. You may also want to consider using a small .22 caliber rifle. The ptarmigan will not scare and fly as easy from the noise of the .22 verses the shotgun. Therefore, you can pick off several of them in one location.
